Blackwater State School offers a rich and engaging curriculum for students from Prep to Year 6. Our curriculum is designed to support the development of fundamental skills while fostering curiosity and a love for learning. The following outlines the curriculum levels available for students from Prep to Year 6:
- Prep (Foundation Year)
In Prep, the focus is on establishing foundational skills in key learning areas such as Literacy, Numeracy, Social Skills, and Emotional Development. Students are introduced to basic concepts of reading, writing, and number work through hands-on, play-based activities, setting the stage for their ongoing learning journey. - Year 1 - Year 2 (Early Primary)
During the early primary years, students continue to build upon the foundations of literacy and numeracy, with a focus on developing reading fluency, writing skills, and mathematical problem-solving abilities. Students also begin to engage in learning across other subjects, including Science, History, and The Arts, while developing essential social and emotional skills. - Year 3 - Year 4 (Middle Primary)
In Years 3 and 4, students expand their skills in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities. More complex concepts in literacy and numeracy are introduced, and students begin to engage in more independent learning. These years also focus on developing critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills through a range of projects and activities. - Year 5 - Year 6 (Upper Primary)
In the upper primary years, students deepen their understanding of key academic subjects and continue to build their skills in literacy, numeracy, Science, Humanities, The Arts, and Physical Education. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills, work collaboratively, and engage in more complex problem-solving activities. These years also prepare students for a smooth transition into the secondary phase of their education.
Throughout all year levels, Blackwater State School ensures that each student is supported in their learning journey, offering a curriculum that is both engaging and challenging. Our dedicated teachers foster an inclusive, stimulating environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
