Research indicates that prolonged exposure to high ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun during childhood and adolescence significantly increases the risk of developing skin cancer later in life.

In alignment with the Sun Safety in State Schools procedure, schools are required to consult with their community to develop and implement a Sun Safety Policy. This policy, which outlines various strategies to minimize the risks associated with UVR exposure, is essential for protecting the well-being of students.

Parents, families, and the wider community also play a crucial role in modeling and reinforcing 5 Ways To Be Sun Safe practices to children and young people, ensuring they understand and adopt these important protective behaviors.
